A Small Town Giant with Big Game

At nearly 7 feet tall and 300 pounds, Reeves was as "big" and as "country" as they come. He earned his famous nickname from a college teammate after expressing amazement at the size of the United States on his first cross-country flight. But it wasn’t just his size that made him a legend—it was his skill, work ethic, and ability to rise to the occasion in the biggest moments.

Dominating College Basketball

As a two-time All-Big Eight Player of the Year and three-time All-American, Reeves led the Oklahoma State Cowboys to the 1995 NCAA Final Four, solidifying his place in OSU history. His dominance in the paint and signature one-handed jumper—famously called "ugly but unstoppable" by Shaquille O’Neal—made him one of the toughest centers in college basketball.

The Buzzer-Beater That Made History

One of his most unforgettable moments came during the 1993 game against Missouri, when he hit a buzzer-beating half-court shot to send the game into overtime. The momentum carried OSU to victory in OT and that miraculous play instantly cemented his status as an OSU icon. An NBA Career and Life After Basketball

After college, Reeves was selected as the sixth overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies, where he played until 2002. Following his retirement, he returned to Oklahoma, purchasing a 300-acre cattle ranch where he and his wife raised their three children. His ranch even includes a full-size hardwood basketball court, a reminder of his legendary past.
