Big Country’s Buzzer-Beater – A Moment for the Ages
On February 24, 1993, Oklahoma State University basketball fans witnessed one of the most unforgettable moments in Gallagher-Iba Arena history. With just seconds remaining in regulation, the Cowboys trailed Missouri by three points, seemingly destined for defeat. But Bryant "Big Country" Reeves, a towering 7-foot center, had other plans.

The Unbelievable Shot
With only two seconds left on the clock, OSU executed a desperate inbounds play. The ball found its way into Reeves’ hands, and with no time to think, he launched a 45-foot heave from half-court. As the buzzer sounded, the ball banked perfectly off the glass and through the net—forcing overtime and sending the Stillwater crowd into a frenzy.
“I told our squad, I’ve had a lot of guys hit big shots,” legendary OSU coach Eddie Sutton later said. “But I’ve never had a guy hit a shot with his back to the basket from half-court.”
OSU carried the momentum into overtime, securing a 77-73 victory over Missouri. The shot became one of the most iconic moments in Oklahoma State basketball history and further cemented Reeves’ reputation as a Cowboy legend.

Reeves' Path to Stardom
This miraculous play was just one highlight in Reeves’ legendary career. He went on to become a two-time All-Big Eight Player of the Year, a three-time All-American, and the leader of OSU’s 1995 Final Four team. An NBA Career and Return to Oklahoma
After college, Reeves was selected as the sixth overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies. Bryant was with the Grizzlies team in Vancouver and then in Memphis for six seasons. Following his retirement, he returned to Oklahoma, purchasing a 300-acre cattle ranch where he and his wife raised their three children. His ranch even includes a full-size hardwood basketball court, a reminder of his legendary past.
