(STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Jan. 27, 2017) - Town & Gown Theatre opens its third production of the 66th season with Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Experience Truvy's Beauty Shop, where the motto is: "There's no such thing as natural beauty!" Steel Magnolias, the Broadway hit that became a community theatre favorite, is returning to Town & Gown for the first time in 15 years. The play is completely different from the movie in that there are only six characters and takes place in one location, Truvy’s Beauty Shop. Filled with hilarious repartee, Steel Magnolias is a fun yet poignant look at enduring friendships in a small-town in the South.

Director Paul Weber remembers directing the 2001 Town & Gown production of Steel Magnolias, “having an opportunity to direct it again is like visiting with an old friend,” said Weber. “Anyone that grew up in a small-town in the South will be familiar with the central setting, the southern dialogue, and similarities to people they may know.” Steel Magnolias, will take audiences on a nostalgic trip back to the late 1980s with costumes, music, and of course the big hair. “[Our actors] have worked hard on their roles and it has been fun watching the characters develop,” said Weber.

Steel Magnolias is a comedy/drama recommended for ages 10 and older. It will run for eight performances from February 9-12 & 16-19, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees beginning at 2:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday, February 6, and can be reserved by calling the box office at 405.372.9122 or purchasing online tickets at www.townandgown.org.
