(INDIANAPOLIS, indiana / Nov. 6, 2017) – For the fourth time in the last five years and 11th time in program history, Oklahoma State has earned a berth in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, it was announced today.
The Cowgirls, who claimed the Big 12 Conference regular season championship and are 16-3-2 on the season, will host Missouri State in NCAA first-round action Saturday at noon at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. OSU is 9-0-0 on its home field in 2017.
OSU’s NCAA Tournament appearance marks its 10th in the last 12 years. The Cowgirls’ first NCAA berth came in 2003, and they made six consecutive trips from 2006-11 and back-to-back appearances in 2013-14.
OSU has previously hosted nine NCAA Championship matches in Stillwater, the last coming in the opening round of the 2014 tournament. The Cowgirls are 6-3-0 all time in NCAA tourney games on their home field.
“It’s a great feeling,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “Any time you get to continue your season playing in the postseason, it’s a big deal. There’s close to 300 schools that don’t get to do that so we’re very fortunate, very blessed and very excited to get to do that. And to get to do it here in front of our fans just makes it extra special.
“I’m really excited for these players, excited for this team. They’ve had a great season and worked so hard, and this is a well-deserved reward for their hard work all year.”
Missouri State enters NCAA play with a 10-9-1 record and earned an NCAA berth by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Championship title to claim the league’s automatic bid. OSU is 5-2-0 all time against Missouri State, with the last meeting coming in 2013 in Stillwater and the Cowgirls claiming a 3-1 victory.
OSU is 9-7-4 all time at the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, with the .550 winning percentage ranking 19th all time among teams that have made at least 10 tourney appearances. The Cowgirls have advanced to at least the second round six times, including back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in 2010 and 2011.
