The Basics

   The No. 15/13 Oklahoma State softball team (17-6 overall, 2-2 Big 12) continues its 50th anniversary season with a three-game series against Baylor (12-17 overall, 1-5 Big 12) this weekend at Cowgirl Stadium. Friday’s series opener is set for 6 p.m. CT, while Saturday is at 2 p.m. CT. The series finale on Sunday has a noon CT first pitch.

In The Rankings

   Oklahoma State is No. 15 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll and No. 13 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. Softball America has the Pokes at No. 13 and D1Softball has the Cowgirls at No. 12. 

   In the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index, which looks at wins and strength of schedule, Oklahoma State is No. 11. Baylor is No. 79. 

   

Oklahoma State from a Distance

   After playing the toughest schedule in the nation through the first two weeks, the Oklahoma State softball team stands at 17-6 and is 2-2 in Big 12 play, highlighted by wins over No. 9 Florida State, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 14 Alabama and No. 18 Nebraska. Six of the Cowgirls’ first nine games were against ranked opponents, with four against top-10 opponents. The gauntlet continued into league play as the Pokes opened against two-time All-American NiJaree Canady and No. 16/15 Texas Tech. 

   Offensively, sophomores Rosie Davis and Tia Warsop have stood out, with the former leading the team in RBIs (29), while the latter holds the highest batting average on the team (.404) and ranks seventh in the Big 12 with a .500 on-base percentage. Senior Megan Bloodworth, the March 4 Big 12 Player of the Week, has also been a force at the plate, slashing .360/.411/.700 with five home runs and 12 RBIs. Graduate transfer Megan Delgadillo (Cal State Fullerton) is batting .394 and paces the team with 20 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. 

   In the circle, Washington transfer Ruby Meylan is performing at an All-America level. She was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on March 4 after going 6-0 and striking out 30 in 23.1 scoreless innings. On the year, the junior from Omaha, Nebraska, is 10-1 with a 1.26 ERA to go with 96 strikeouts in 72.1 innings of work. Sophomore right-hander Katie Kutz began the season as the least experienced pitcher on the staff, however she has blossomed into one of the Cowgirls’ top arms. The McLean, Va., native was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 18 after securing wins over three ranked opponents in four appearances at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational to go with a 1.20 ERA and 10 strikeouts. On the season, she is 7-2 with a 2.58 ERA. 

 

Notable Streaks and Trends

• Dating to last season, OSU has won 16 consecutive home games. 

• OSU has 44 stolen bases this season, which nearly matches last season’s total of 45. 

• OSU is outscoring its opposition, 59-19, from the fifth inning on.

• OSU has won seven games in which it trailed by two runs or more.

• OSU is 5-1 in one-run games.

• OSU is 16-1 when scoring more than two runs.

• OSU is 12-2 when scoring first. 

• OSU has been ranked in the NFCA poll in each of its last 356 games, dating back to the start of the 2019 season.

• Tia Warsop is yet to be caught stealing in her career. She is 21-for-21 on stolen base attempts dating to last season - the second-longest active streak in the nation.

• This season, OSU has won every game in which Warsop has scored a run. 

• Dating to last season, Karli Godwin has started 84 consecutive games, the longest streak on the team.
