The Roots of Red Dirt Run Deep in Stillwater
Red Dirt music isn’t just a genre—it’s a movement that was born right here in Stillwater, Oklahoma. It all began at a place called The Farm, a two-story house on the edge of town that became a creative haven for musicians like Bob Childers, Jimmy LaFave, and Tom Skinner in the late 1970s. Blending country, rock, blues, gospel, and folk, they created a sound as gritty and genuine as the red soil beneath their boots. That sound came to be known as Red Dirt—and Stillwater is where it all started.
