There is nothing like a real bagel. I mean a fresh bagel...made from scratch, authentic, water-boiled bagel. Until you have tasted a real bagel, you are missing out on mouth-watering goodness, but did you know you are also missing a little piece of Stillwater history? Thanks to Old School Bagel Cafe, inspired by history and a dream to bring Stillwater something truly unique and delicious, authentic bagels are now one of Stillwater's local flavors.
Old School Bagel Cafe opened in 2007 in Oklahoma City but that dream stems back over 20 years ago. One of the original Old School Bagel Cafe's owners, worked at the New York Bagel in Stillwater during college, a local restaurant and bakery now long gone, but inspired a full-circle dream back to Stillwater. Stillwater's Old School Bagel Cafe owners spent one week in the Oklahoma City location learning the art of authentic bagel baking to bring New York style bagels back to Stillwater and we are sure happy they did.
Bill Ford, one of the owners, graciously offered a quick tour of the bagel preparing and baking process at Old School Bagel Cafe. A one man crew arrives at 12:30am daily to bake 800 bagels that begin with approximately 85 pounds of dough per batch. Stillwater visitors and residents are guaranteed the freshest bagels served up with everything from heaping mounds of cream cheese to all the fixings for seventeen different specialty bagel sandwiches.
Their most popular specialty sandwich is the Old Smokey, an Everything bagel piled high with smoked turkey and chive and onion cream cheese.
With 19 different bagel flavors you can mix and match toppings and bagels to your liking or order one of their side dishes such as tabouli and pasta salad to complete your mouth-watering bagel meal.
It's especially difficult to walk past the all the homemade desserts without ordering one of each. While in line you will get an up close and personal look at the cinnamon rolls, sticky buns and the heavenly Big Honkin' Cookies, unique to Old School Bagel Cafe.
As their motto says above the door, "Spreading Joy, Love and Cream Cheese" is a perfect description as you will be met with the friendliest of faces, ready to take your order and bring your food to your table. Old School Bagel Cafe is the kind of place where you are always greeted with a smile and if you're a regular, someone behind the counter very well may know what you want before you order.
Old School Bagel is open from 6:30am-8:00pm Monday through Friday, 8:00am-8:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am-3:00pm on Sunday. You can stay connected with Old School Bagel on their facebook page or on their website at www.oldschoolbagelstw.com where you can also see an online menu.
