The new program will be spotlighting the Bedlam women’s tennis matchup between the Cowgirls and the Sooners that will be held at the new Greenwood Tennis Center on the OSU campus.
"It is a great honor for our program to be chosen as a host site,” said Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young. “We are excited to showcase our new facility and the excitement surrounding our program with the rest of the country."
In addition to online coverage, fans in attendance at the match will have access to the 53-foot, interactive Fan Experience trailer on site, where they can engage in a number of activities before and during the match.
“College tennis is such amazing and exciting competition, and College MatchDay is a way to shine a light on schools, teams, players and coaches,” said Virgil Christian, the United States Tennis Association’s Director of Collegiate Tennis. “We hope that College MatchDay can change the landscape of viewing college tennis both in person and at home.”
Every MatchDay that will be live streamed will follow an experimental format, as proposed by an advisory group of NCAA Division I athletic directors: all six singles matches will be played first. As soon as one team reaches four points and clinches the match, the remaining matches will not be completed. In the case of a 3-3 tie after the singles matches, doubles matches – played using 10-point super tiebreakers – will be used to determine the winner.
The Cowgirls are one of three Big 12 teams that will be hosting College MatchDay this season. The program will make its way to Fort Worth, Texas, on March 1 for the men’s match between TCU and Texas before travelling to Waco, Texas, on March 19 for the women’s match featuring Baylor and Texas A&M.
