(Stillwater, OK) – The Stillwater Public Library (SPL) is having its annual “Drive-thru Shred” with Shred-Away Shredding on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. The event is free, but donations are welcome to help cover costs.
Brenna Gilchrist, adult services librarian, counts this event as one of her favorites because it helps patrons manage the safe disposal of sensitive documents.
“Since it’s tax season, community members have been asking about the shred and preparing documents for the event,” Gilchrist said. “Shred-Away has been partnering with us for many years now, and they always do a fantastic job. We are grateful that they are willing to come out on a Saturday to work with us.”
On the day of the event, vehicles should line up in the library’s north parking lot and follow the traffic path through the Prairie Art Center’s (PAC) parking lot. Volunteers and library staff will unload boxes and help direct the flow of traffic. Documents will be shredded onsite by one of Shred-Away’s trucks.
Each car is limited to two copy-paper-sized boxes of material. Staples and paper clips do not have to be removed, but attendees are responsible for removing any empty boxes or containers they bring.
The library also maintains a webpage about the shred event that contains links to trusted resources that provide tips for identifying documents to shred. That information, along with frequently asked questions about the event, can be found at stillwaterok.gov/LibraryShred.
SPL would also like to thank the City of Stillwater for providing traffic items and the Prairie Arts Center and the Stillwater Farmer’s Market for sharing the parking lot for the event.
“It can be quite hectic during the shred,” Gilchrist said. “But the PAC and Farmer’s Market work with us to make space, and the City lends us traffic supplies to run the event safely. We couldn’t hold this event without their assistance.”
The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St. Library hours are Monday- Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
