(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / March 31, 2022) – Learn the basics of investing on Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m., with Penny Holt, vice president of marketing at Oklahoma Community Credit Union. Holt will cover a range of financial topics, including savings accounts, money markets, IRA’s and more. The program will take place in person at the Stillwater Public Library. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

According to NextAdvisor (in partnership with TIME), investing is one of the best long-term contributions individuals can make to benefit their future, but the massive amount of information available hinders many people from starting. They suggest that many individuals believe investing is too complicated and that only the wealthy can participate.

Holt agrees that the amount of information can be overwhelming but asserts that investing is relatively simple once started.

“Anyone can invest. Knowing where to start is the hardest part,” Holt said. “With so many options to choose from, deciding which form of investing is best for you can be tricky.”

Holt will explain the benefits of each category of investing and discuss the options available for attendees planning to start saving for retirement or begin an inheritance for kids and grandkids. She will also discuss opportunities for small-volume investing and choices for setting up rainy day funds.

Holt has words of encouragement for those still on the fence.

“It’s never too early or too late to start investing,” Holt said. “Every small amount helps, and no one should feel barred from participating.”

Community members can learn more about the program and register to attend at library.stillwater.org/register.php. The Library has financial information packets on topics including debt management, building credit and more from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that are free to the public, as well as many books on finance topics available for checkout.
