(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / Sept. 17, 2020) – As we kick off the 2020 Cowboy Football season, the City of Stillwater reminds fans to cheer on the cowboys responsibly amidst the current pandemic.

Gameday guidelines to remember:

  • OSU is prohibiting tailgating on campus
  • The City of Stillwater does not allow tailgating on public property and in rights of ways
  • Face coverings are required by Ordinance 3452 if you are unable to distance;  this applies even if you are outside on streets and sidewalks and cannot consistently maintain social distancing
  • Large gatherings are discouraged

“We’re all excited for the upcoming football season, but we must remember the public’s health and safety is still at stake. If fans cannot abide by the established protocol, the City may have to take additional actions in the future,” City Manager Norman McNickle said. “For our own protection, please follow all safety protocols, and remember the guidelines that OSU has in place. The City will be monitoring the adherence to these guidelines and will respond to any arising situations as appropriate.”

The City encourages its residents and visitors to enjoy the game safely— practice social distancing, wash hands often, covers coughs and sneezes, and wear face coverings. Specific guidelines for Boone Pickens Stadium are at https://okstate.com/news/2020/8/12/football-fan-safety-measures-in-boone-pickens-stadium.aspx.

The City continues to work closely with OSU, Payne County Health Department, Stillwater Medical Center and other local organizations to keep the community safe, informed and healthy. OSU is in the middle of its campus reopening plan called “Cowboys Coming Back,” which includes policies and guidelines for contact tracing, COVID-19 testing, touch-point cleaning and personal health responsibilities.
