Hazardous Materials

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / Sept. 1, 2020) — The City of Stillwater is holding its fall household hazardous waste collection event Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Convenience Collection Center, 807 S. Perkins Road.

During this event, residents are encouraged to drop off household pollutants free of charge, including oil-based paints, pesticides, herbicides, household cleaning products, pool chemicals, craft and hobby supplies, mixed fuels and fertilizer.

“We’re happy to continue to provide residents with a simple way to properly dispose of household chemicals while protecting the environment,” Environmental Programs Manager Chris Franks said. “But this fall it will look slightly different— a variety of COVID-19 precautions will be taken. Residents are asked to wear a mask and stay in their car when they arrive, and the employees will be taking additional measures.”

In conjunction with this event, the Convenience Collection Center will receive tires, oil, antifreeze, automobile batteries and rechargeable batteries, scrap metal, latex paint, fluorescent bulbs, and other everyday recyclables, though a fee may apply for some services.

The event is not accepting unwanted pharmaceuticals this year, due to COVID-19 related concerns.

The center will not accept yard waste during the event's hours (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.), but will start accepting it again from 1 to 4 p.m. after the special collection event concludes.

These events help residents reduce the amount of household pollutants in their homes while ensuring these pollutants are disposed of properly. The City is also using this opportunity to bring awareness to residents about the recycling opportunities the center offers.
