(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / July 15, 2022) – The Stillwater Public Library's last Storywalk® family fun event of the summer is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, from 6-8 p.m.
A new book, "I Can Eat a Rainbow" by Olena Rose will debut, giving families a new story to enjoy together that highlights the importance of eating colorful foods like fruits and veggies.
Children's Librarian Elizabeth Murray is using the book as inspiration for refreshments.
"We want to showcase an example of an easy way to incorporate healthy foods into your diet, so we're providing free samples of water infused with fruit," Murray said.
"I Can Eat a Rainbow," like the other stories on display at the Storywalk® at Strickland Park, incorporate accessibility features, including a recorded version available via a QR code and braille text posted next to the story pages.
"The Oklahoma Library for the Blind is a phenomenal resource," Murray said. "They have been instrumental in helping us ensure that this Storywalk® is more inclusive by translating the story text to braille and printing it on stickers for us."
In addition to a new story and free snacks, there will also be several fun activities.
Kids will be able to create a watermelon suncatcher with help from the OSU Museum of Art, play with hula hoops, jump ropes or sidewalk chalk and read with therapy dogs.
"The therapy dogs have been a huge hit this summer," Murray said. "We're so grateful that they're able to join us again."
The Storywalk® event is free and open to the public. After completing a short survey, children will receive a free book courtesy of the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library while supplies last.
While this is the last summer event planned at the Storywalk®, the library regularly changes the stories at both Storywalk® locations – at Strickland Park and Couch Park. To learn more and keep up with Storywalk® happenings, visit library.stillwater.org/
