STILLWATER, Okla. – Four Cowboys scored in double figures to push Oklahoma State past Oklahoma, 72-56, in the Phillips 66 Bedlam Series at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Wednesday night.
With the win, OSU improved to 10-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Oklahoma fell to 11-7 and 2-4, respectively. The win marked a fourth-straight Bedlam win in Stillwater for Oklahoma State.
Avery Anderson’s 14 points put him over the 1,000-career points milestone. Three additional Cowboys were in double figures, including Bryce Thompson (19), Kalib Boone (15) and Woody Newton (12).
In his first start for OSU, Newton was 4-6 from the field with two three pointers. Thompson added nine rebounds and four assists to his line.
Oklahoma grabbed an early 12-9 lead with 11:58 remaining in the first half. Four-straight made field goals from the Cowboys gave them an 18-15 lead heading into a media timeout. Boone anchored the defense with three first-half blocks and five total. OSU has had three or more blocks in every game this season and leads the Big 12 with the most blocked shots.
A 9-0 run from the Sooners allowed them to open the lead to 24-18 with 4:35 remaining, but a Thompson fade away mid-range jumper brought the Pokes to within six at halftime.
A 12-2 run out of the break, sparked by a Newton three-pointer, gave the Cowboys a 39-35 lead with 15:08 to go. Oklahoma State would not give up the lead the remainder of the game as six-straight OSU field goals put the Pokes up seven with 11:49 remaining in the second half.
The Cowboys allowed two points in the final five minutes of the game to close out the Sooners.
Both teams will return to action at home on Saturday to host ranked opponents. Oklahoma State will host No. 12 Iowa State, while Oklahoma will have No. 21 Baylor in Norman.
