The Cowboys earned a No. 2 seed in the NIT and will host No. 7 Florida Gulf Coast at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Stillwater on ESPN2.

FGCU (23-11, 12-2 ASUN) came out of the ASUN as regular season champions. The Eagles made it to the final round of the conference tournament, but lost to Lipscomb. Despite the loss, FGCU earned an automatic bid to the NIT. The Eagles had 13 wins straight from Dec. 29 to Feb. 10. This is the first meeting between the Cowboys and the Eagles.

The NIT berth is OSU’s 40th postseason appearance in either the NIT or NCAA Tournament. The Cowboys play host for the sixth time in the NIT. OSU boasts a 5-1 record when hosting an NIT game, with its most recent win coming in 2011 against Harvard.

This is the first NIT appearance for any player on the Cowboys’ roster. Despite the unfamiliarity with the NIT, the Cowboys are no stranger to postseason play. OSU played in last year’s NCAA Tournament and senior forward Mitchell Solomon played in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

The Cowboys have finished in third place in the NIT twice, the first time coming in 1938 and two years later in 1940. OSU has been to Madison Square Garden four times and have a 3-5 NIT record in the building.
