Readers and fans were asked to vote on destinations that offer distinctive musical experiences for groups and tourists alike, according to ConventionSouth editor Catherine Dorrough. "With our Music & Meetings feature, and particularly with this social contest, we're celebrating the South's role as the birthplace of so many genres that are foundational to America's musical heritage, from the blues and bluegrass to zydeco and rock 'n' roll. Cities across the South carry on that musical legacy today, with local bands and industry influencers who continue to innovate and experiment. We already think of Nashville and New Orleans as music cities, but we wanted to pay tribute to the smaller towns along the byways of the South that play an equally important role in fostering musical creativity. When groups have an opportunity to hear the unique rhythms of a city, they gain a deeper understanding of the local culture - and they get an opportunity to let loose and have some fun, which any planner will tell you is essential to hosting a successful event."
