(STILLWATER, Oklahoma / April 5, 2017) – Hazel Modella Gallery is a non-profit art gallery dedicated to bringing contemporary arts to Downtown Stillwater, Oklahoma and is set to open Friday, April 7, 2017 with a Grand Opening Reception from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The gallery will provide unique opportunities and the pleasure of enjoying works of contemporary art to the people of Oklahoma and beyond. These works include, but are not limited to the visual and performing arts; intended to enhance the quality of life and promote community pride in Stillwater.  The gallery will present continuing program of art exhibitions of local and national artists, music and performance events, screenings, and special projects.

The inaugural exhibition at Hazel Modella Gallery will be an exhibition of work by Christie Hackler and Christie Owen.  Christie Hackler was born and raised in Oklahoma and will be presenting a series of sculpture. Working primarily in three-dimensions, Hackler creates copper and enameled wall hangings and sculptural lighting pieces along with figurative sculpture. Christie Owen is a native New Yorker living in Edmond, Oklahoma. Owen works in painting and sculpture balancing her process between clear intention and serendipity. She works to find visual solutions utilizing a variety of mediums and applications to apply concepts and techniques throughout her projects.

In celebration of the inaugural exhibition at Hazel Modella Gallery, The Oklahoma State University trumpet studio will perform two pieces they prepared for the 2017 National Trumpet Competition during the opening reception. Each year since 2014 OSU has taken first place in at least one of the NTC Divisions with 2017 being no exception. The studio will play Profanation by Bernstein and the Firebird Suite by Stravinsky, pieces arranged by OSU trumpet professor Dr. Ryan Gardner.

Hazel Modella Gallery is located at 721 South Main Street in historic downtown Stillwater, OK.
