Experience the magic of The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Principal Guest Conductor Marin Alsop, a pioneering force in classical music who inspires with every gesture. At The McKnight Center, she'll lead two unique programs that promise to captivate both longtime fans of classical music and those new to classical world.

The "Triumph and Joy" concert is filled with brilliance and heart: Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, a powerful tale of courage and triumph; Brahms’s Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn, full of wit and wonder; and Schumann’s radiant Symphony No. 2, music that soars with hope and resilience.

The "Stories in Sound" performance begins with The Rock You Stand On, a stirring tribute to resilience and connection by composer John Adams. Rising star Hayato Sumino then takes the stage for Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F, a sparkling fusion of classical elegance and jazz-inspired flair. To close, selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet bring Shakespeare’s timeless tale to life through music filled with passion, drama, and beauty.

One of the foremost conductors of our time, Marin Alsop is a powerful and inspiring voice. Convinced that music has the power to change lives, she is internationally recognized for her innovative approach to programming and audience development, deep commitment to education, and championing of music’s importance in the world. The first woman to serve as the head of major orchestras in the United States, South America, Austria, and Great Britain, she is, as The New York Times put it, not only “a formidable musician and a powerful communicator” but also “a conductor with a vision.”

Born in 1995, Hayato Sumino won the Grand Prix of the Special Class of the PTNA Piano Competition while he was a graduate student at University of Tokyo in 2018. This was the start of his full-fledged musical career. While building a solid position in classical music, he is attracting attention as a truly new type of pianist who carefully focuses on all music that beyond genres. Currently, in addition to performing concerts in Japan and aboard, he also writes, arranges, and performs his own music under the name of “Cateen” on YouTube, with over 1,000,000 subscribers and 100 million views. His unique style, a fusion of classical techniques, arrangements, and improvisational skills, has been well received by many fans.
