Overview

Oklahoma State University is hosting a community-wide viewing party on the south side of Edmon Low Library beginning about 11 a.m. Of course, clear skies are necessary to view the eclipse. The partial solar eclipse begins locally at 11:37 a.m., reaches its maximum point at 1:06 p.m., and ends at 2:35 p.m. At the peak of the solar eclipse, 87 percent of the sunlight will be blocked when the moon’s orbit travels in front of the sun and casts its shadow on Earth.

Shannon Garde, a technology specialist and director of Creative Studios at Edmon Low Library, said a telescope will be set up to project a roughly 2x3 foot projection so people can safely watch the eclipse. The university also has 200 pairs of eclipse glasses people can use to look directly at the sun without damaging their eyes.
