Overview
The Department of Physics at Oklahoma State University is offering a free STEM summer camp focused on cutting-edge materials science research. Led by Dr. Derek Meyers and sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Scientific Underrepresented Minority Materials ExpeRience (SUMMER) Camp introduces high school students to advanced concepts in physics, chemistry, and biology through hands-on experiments and demonstrations.
Campers will participate in a range of activities including laboratory tours, team-based research projects, and exciting demonstrations such as high-temperature superconductivity, laser interference, and liquid nitrogen ice cream. Students will gain experience with equipment like atomic force microscopes, x-ray diffraction tools, and thin film synthesis stations, all located on the OSU campus.
The camp runs Monday through Friday, with drop-off from 9:00–9:30 a.m. and pick-up between 4:30–5:00 p.m. at the OSU Physical Sciences Building (554 Physical Sciences Building, Lot #34). Breakfast snacks and lunch are provided daily. Mileage reimbursement is available for those commuting longer distances to Stillwater.
To learn more or register, contact Dr. Derek Meyers at 405-744-5185 or derek.meyers@okstate.edu.
