Overview

Scientific Materials Experience Summer Camp will take place June 15–19 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Physical Science Building on the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater. Hosted by the Department of Physics and led by Derek Meyers, this free STEM camp introduces students ages 12–14 to cutting-edge materials science research through hands-on experimentation and guided exploration.

Campers will participate in lab tours across physics, chemistry, and biology departments and engage in demonstrations such as angular momentum, superconductivity, laser interference, and liquid nitrogen experiments, including making ice cream. Students will work in teams to conduct real research-based activities such as thin film synthesis, atomic force microscopy, x-ray photoemission spectroscopy, and x-ray diffraction, all supervised by faculty and student assistants.

Drop-off is 9:00–9:30 a.m. and pick-up is 4:30–5:00 p.m. daily. Breakfast snacks and catered lunch are provided. Mileage compensation is available for qualifying longer-distance travel. Registration closes June 1. For additional information, contact Dr. Derek Meyers at 405-744-5185 or derek.meyers@okstate.edu.
