Overview

Members of the Stillwater and OSU communities are planning a celebration of the lives of Bernice and Earl Mitchell this upcoming spring. They were such integral members of both our civic and academic worlds that we believe a joint acknowledgment of their contributions and lives would be both fun and appropriate. The event will feature a New Orleans jazz band and décor representing their original home in Louisiana before moving to Stillwater in the mid-1960s. The reception will be in conjunction with Black History Month and is for both the opening of the Washington School exhibit in the Stillwater History Museum in the Sheerar and the celebration for Bernice and Earl. The Washington School exhibit is designed by Dr. Laura Arata. The official title of the event will be:
