Town & Gown Theatre in Stillwater is excited to announce the first show of its historic 75th season, the hilarious and celebrated musical Legally Blonde, based on the 2001 film of the same name.  The show chronicles the journey of the famously perky Elle Woods, a fashion-savvy UCLA sorority member who finds her life turned upside down when she is dumped by her boyfriend, Warner. In an effort to prove to Warner that she is more than just a pretty face, she defies the odds and gets admitted alongside him at Harvard Law, where she struggles to fit in and succeed. As a fish WAY out of water, Elle finds support from Emmett, a hardworking teaching assistant, and her aesthetician, Paulette. Ultimately, she discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others and manages to defy all expectations while staying true to her delightfully pink personality.

This is the second time Town & Gown has produced Legally Blonde.  The original production in 2014featured current director Renae Perry acting in the role of Enid Hoops, in just her second show at Town & Gown.  In the years since, she has directed and performed in many other fantastic shows there, at the Ponca Playhouse in Ponca City, and at the Gaslight Theatre in Enid.  But her heart belongs to Town & Gown, and she is excited to bring Legally Blonde to its patrons once again.

Perry says that she is “so grateful for the opportunity to direct the opening production for Town & Gown’s amazing 75th season.  We cannot wait to share Legally Blonde with Stillwater and the surrounding communities.  Our cast and crew have worked extremely hard on this upbeat, energetic, and powerful show.

“I am overwhelmed by the levels of talent and commitment in our cast, and I'm certain they are going to put on a phenomenal show!  Don't miss it!"

Legally Blonde opens a fantastic 75th season of productions at Town & Gown.  This season’s shows include the Charles Dickens-inspired classic A Christmas Carol in December; a reprisal of the hilarious comedy Moon Over Buffalo in February; a special presentation of Love Letters in late February throughearly March; Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire in April; and the timeless and beloved musical, My Fair Lady to close out the season next June.  Legally Blonde is one of three shows this season (along with A Christmas Carol and My Fair Lady) that will run for three weekends instead of the usual two in celebration of 75 years of wonderful live local theater.

Legally Blonde opens Wednesday, September 24 and runs to September 28; and then again from October 1 – 5 and 8 – 12.  Wednesday through Saturday evening shows start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale beginning Monday, September 21 and can be obtained by calling the Town & Gown box office at (405) 372-9122 or visiting the theatre’s website at www.townandgown.org. Ticket prices are $18 each for adults and $16 for military members, students, and seniors.
