(STILLWATER, Oklahoma / September 26, 2017) – Oklahoma State women’s tennis players Viktoriya Lushkova, Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco will all be playing in the doubles main draw quarterfinals at the Stillwater Pro Tennis Classic after picking up first round wins on Tuesday.

Teaming up with Florida All-American Anna Danilina, Lushkova opened main draw doubles with a big win. The pair followed up a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in its qualifying match yesterday with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Camila Romero and Ana Sofia Sanchez to move on to the quarterfinals.

Babic and Blanco advanced as well, winning in epic fashion over the fourth-seeded tandem of Julia Elbaba and Chieh-Yu Hsu. After trading 6-2 set wins, with Hsu and Elbaba taking the first, and the Cowgirl duo taking the second, the teams headed to a super tiebreaker to decide the match. Blanco and Babic would come out victorious, edging their opponents in the tiebreaker, 12-10.

The day started with qualifying singles action, as both Katarina Adamovic and Lisa Marie Rioux were in position to play for spots in the main draw.

Adamovic came up short to Japan’s Kana Daniel, dropping her first set, 6-4, before suffering an injury early in the second set. Coming back from the injury timeout, the former Cowgirl hung with Daniel, but was outlasted, 6-4, 6-4.

Rioux pushed No. 6 seed Piia Suomalainen to three sets in her qualifying final match, but also fell just short. Rioux took the first set from Suomalainen, but would ultimately fall, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Four singles matches opened the afternoon session, three of which featured members of the host Cowgirl tennis team.

Vladica Babic came up short in her match against Marta Paigina of Russia, falling, 6-3, 6-1. Cowgirl newcomer Marina Guinart fell, 6-2, 6-1, to Serbian Jovana Jaksic, while Katarina Stresnakova dropped her first-round match to Caitlin Whorisky.

Main draw singles matches will continue Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT. Doubles will continue later in the day, not before 2:30 p.m. CT.
