STILWATER, OK— (October 1, 2015) The Red Dirt International Film Festival announced this year’s event will kick-off with a party at Eskimo Joe’s Outdoor Venue Oct 8. Bring your picnic blanket for this free multimedia event including live music, film showings and a chance to talk to filmmakers from the festival.
The evening will begin with the filmmaker press panel at 5 p.m. Local press and community are invited to speak with the filmmakers about their work and experiences.
“This is the best way to sample the film festival,” said Damon Blalack, film fest director. “And it’s a chance to give back… to one of Oklahoma’s best charities, the Red Dirt Relief Fund.” Red Dirt music icons Chuck Dunlap and Scott Carson will perform at 6 p.m. and will be accepting donations for the fund which benefits local veteran musicians in need.
The original Oklahoma feature comedy, “Skid,” will be shown on the inflatable screen at 7:30, along with other comedies, including “Ronnie BoDean” starring Wes Studi. Local artists Dominick McClenny and Tres Dudes will perform live. King Okie Brand Music Band will finish the evening playing all original heavy western music.
The kick-off party begins the three-day Red Dirt International Film Festival. Films from around the world will be shown Oct. 9 and 10 at the Stillwater Community Center, competing for jury awards including Best Oklahoma Film and Best International Film.
The festival will include “6 or 7 hours of non-stop horror in one room with a panel featuring renowned Oklahoma personality Count Gregore and directors Josh Miller and Nick Sanford,” said Blalack. It also includes live music, more parties and an award ceremony Saturday night.
While the kick-off party is free to the public, weekend passes to the film festival are available at reddirtfilmfest.org. For press passes or to volunteer, please contact reddirtfilmfestival@gmail.org.
