(STILLWATER, Okla.)-- The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University (OSU) announces Buddy Guy will perform on Friday, October 7 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are now on sale.
Buddy Guy will showcase his newest album, The Blues Don’t Lie. The legendary blues artist's 34th album showcases his raw and unadulterated sound, a true pleasure for aficionados and genre newcomers alike.
"I got children and grandchildren who didn't know who I was, but nowadays we can play outdoor concerts and see kids that are eight, nine, twelve years old coming to me and saying, 'I didn't know who you was, but I read what Eric Clapton said about you,'" Guy explains when discussing his mindset around his new record. "I'm always trying to make an album that someone accidentally plays where some kid hears it, picks up a guitar, and helps keep the blues alive."
“At 86 years old, Buddy is the reigning patriarch of the blues world,” said Mark Blakeman, The McKnight Center’s Marilynn and Carl Thoma Executive Director. “Of the blues musicians that are living and creating today, he is the absolute best.” Guy has won eight Grammys, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented with the National Medal of Arts, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was a Kennedy Center honoree. A truly restless and energetic performer, The Blues Don’t Lie is the latest triumph in an already-legendary career.
Buddy Guy performs as part of The McKnight Center’s new Pep Rally Event Series, a free event held on the plaza lawn adjacent to the entrance. The October 7 Pep Rally begins at 5 pm and offers food truck concessions from Blue J’s Rockin’ Grill and The Spud Truck. Les Thomas, OSU Game Day Host, will emcee the event. Beginning at 6:15 pm, Thomas will welcome special guests from the OSU men’s Basketball team, mascot Pistol Pete, and BB the mini horse. A live simulcast of the concert will be shown on the 32-foot LED wall in the plaza.
Additional Pep Rally dates include a performance of the Broadway musical, Legally Blonde, on Friday, Nov. 11. Each Pep Rally Series event will include new food and entertainment options. All events in the Pep Rally series are sponsored by Devon Energy and are free to attend and open to the public.
