(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Jan. 7, 2016) –The Stillwater Public Library will host its community wide shredding event on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 9-11 a.m.  Each car may bring two copy paper sized boxes full of sensitive documents to be shredded securely.  The shredding event is free, but donations will be accepted to pay for the use of the shredder.

Because of the increasing popularity of the shredding event, the library has made a few changes. Library staff is asking participants to take note of the time change. The event was moved to 9 a.m. to avoid lunchtime traffic.

In addition, the path cars take to the shredding truck will now include both the library and Multi Arts parking lots. The extended path will allow more cars to get in the queue without interfering with street traffic.

“We appreciate the help we have received from the City of Stillwater’s Traffic Department and Multi Arts,” said Lynda Reynolds. “They were able to provide us with a new plan to make the shredding event as quick, efficient and safe as possible.”

Students going to Multi Arts for classes that morning will be able to park in the street-adjacent spaces on the north side of the block.

Shredding will be performed on site by Shred Away, a local document destruction company.  Participants will drive through the marked parking lots and have their documents unloaded and shredded on the spot.  Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed from the documents.

Items to consider shredding include material containing account numbers, social security numbers, private correspondence, bank statements, bills, medical information, legal information, passwords or signatures.  Many people also bring unsolicited mail like pre-approved credit card offers. For more information about documents to shred, participants are encouraged to speak with their attorney and accountant or to visit the websites listed on the library’s shredding event page at http://library.stillwater.org/annual_shredding_event.php.
