WHO: Safe Kids Tulsa Area in partnership with Stillwater Fire Department
WHAT: Safe Kids Tulsa Area and Stillwater Fire Department will partner to provide a car seat checkup event. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will perform the inspections and will also train parents and caregivers in the proper installation and setup of their own specific car seats in their own vehicles.
WHEN: Saturday, May 17, 2014, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Stillwater Fire Department Head Quarter, 1506 South Main Street, Stillwater, OK 74074
WHY: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says 75 percent of children are riding in car safety seats that aren't properly installed or don't fit correctly. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading killer of children ages 1 to 14. Infants and children in motor vehicles must be secured in age- and size-appropriate car seats until they fit properly into an adult safety belt, usually around 4’9” tall and 80 to 100 pounds.
A limited number of car seats will be available for $10 each to eligible families while supplies last. To qualify, the caregiver must be the legal guardian of the child, must show proof of government aid (such as food stamps, WIC, Medicaid, etc.) and the child must be present or within eight weeks of the due date.
