(Stillwater, OK) – The Friends of the Stillwater Public Library will hold their annual spring used book sale Thursday, May 1, through Sunday, May 4, at the Stillwater Community Center on 315 W. 8th Ave.
“The book sale is taking place a little bit later than usual,” said Library Director Stacy DeLano. “This year is going to be a little different due to construction at the library, but one thing that will remain the same is an excellent selection of books for probably as cheap as you can get them anywhere in town.”
Hardbacks cost $1, paperbacks, CD-books, music CDs, DVDs and vinyl records are 50 cents each, and children’s books can be bought for a quarter. The Friends only accept cash or checks as payment; they cannot accept credit or debit cards. They do not charge sales tax.
The Stillwater Public Library is in the process of replacing its fire suppression system. While the building remains open, less space is available for events like the book sale.
“We’re very fortunate that the Community Center is giving us space to host the sale this year,” DeLano said. “The Friends will have more work this year because books will have to be moved, which is why we’re asking for more volunteers this year to help.”
Volunteers are especially needed to help move books on the afternoon of Monday, April 28, and to help clean up on the afternoon of Sunday, May 4. Anyone interested in volunteering can submit their availability at tinyurl.com/SPLBookSaleHelp.
The sale kicks off with the “Preview Night” on Thursday, May 1, from 5-8 p.m. A $10 fee is charged at the door to enter unless attendees have purchased a lifetime Friends membership, which costs $100. Buyers at the preview sale are limited to 100 items total, including 50 children’s books.
Then, on Friday, May 2, the sale opens to the public from noon to 8 p.m. and continues Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The $1 bag sale takes place Sunday, May 4, from 1-3 p.m., allowing buyers to fill a bag with books for $1. The Friends provide bags, and there is no limit to the number of bags that can be purchased.
