Our 2014 Visiting Artist, Jorge Bachman, is known for his work with the San Francisco-based series Soundwave, as well as a variety of international projects. As a multimedia and sound artist, he has collected field recordings exploring the strange, unique, and microcosmic sounds of everyday life.
In conjunction with our visiting artist program, we invite you to join us for the following events.
Late Thursday at the Postal Plaza Gallery
Bachman has been independently working with sound recordings by former OSU faculty member Dale McKinney to create a multimedia installation for the Postal Plaza Gallery. This installation will be revealed on April 17 at 6:30 pm during a special Late Thursday event with the artist at the Postal Plaza.
Fading Open: The Mind Recovers in Silence
In collaboration with Bachman, current OSU students have created this site-specific exhibition for the 3rd floor of Hanner Hall (click the link above for directions). Fading Open uses found sounds to create an experience representing the spectrum of emotions from despair to hope. Visitors will explore a labyrinth-inspired installation, moving from room to room and encountering various sounds that students have collected and edited throughout the semester. Open the public April 21 through April 25 from 4 pm - 10 pm daily and April 26 and April 27 from 11 am - 4 pm.
Experience more of Bachman's work at the Postal Plaza
Temporarily experience existing work by Jorge Bachman inside one of the Postal Plaza Gallery's historic vaults, a leftover feature from the building's time as a Post Office. This work is on view starting April 14.
