STILLWATER - A successful spring season helped Oklahoma State secure its sixth consecutive top-30 finish in the annual Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. OSU ranked 29th out of more than 300 NCAA Division I athletics programs, while posting the second highest aggregate scorer among its Big 12 Conference peers.
The annual Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today to evaluate success in all sports. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
Of Oklahoma State's 18 varsity sports, 10 placed among the top 25 nationally in 2024-25 and six secured top-10 finishes.
Cowboy Golf claimed its 12th NCAA men’s golf title in late May, and Wrestling (3rd), Women’s Tennis (5th), Men’s Indoor Track & Field (5th) and Men’s Cross Country (8th) also placed prominently at their respective NCAA Championships.
Going back to the start of the decade (2020-21), OSU’s average national finish (22.8) is tops among the 16 current Big 12 Conference programs, ranking ahead of Arizona State (28.4), BYU (28.8) and Arizona (39.2).
OSU’s success in the Learfield Directors’ Cup comes despite what is essentially a two-sport handicap. Cowgirl Equestrian (which reached the NCEA national quarterfinals this year) does not qualify for points as a non-NCAA sport, and the school does not sponsor women’s volleyball, leaving just 17 eligible sports (most others sponsor 19 or more).
