(LA QUINTA, California / February 20, 2018) – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team posted a 283 during the opening round of The Prestige at PGA West on Tuesday at PGA West’s Greg Norman Course.
The No. 1-ranked Cowboys shared the top spot on the leaderboard with Oregon, which matched OSU’s 1-under total at the par-71, 7,100-yard layout. Pepperdine finished the day two shots off the pace with a 1-over 285.
The event, which was shortened to 36 holes after yesterday’s round was canceled due to high winds, got underway Tuesday and will conclude with Wednesday’s round.
Northwestern’s Sam Triplett opened with a 4-under 67 to grab a one-shot lead over Franklin Huang of Stanford and Norman Xiong of Oregon.
A pair of Cowboys, Kristoffer Ventura and Viktor Hovland, posted 69s to finish among the group tied for fourth place.
Ventura birdied two of his first three holes before turning in 1-under 34. He got to 3-under for the day with birdies at Nos. 10 and 12 before carding the lone bogey of his back nine at the 15th.
Hovland turned in a clean outward nine with eight pars and a birdie at the seventh. After posting a birdie at the 12th, the sophomore’s lone bogey of the day came at the 13th before he tallied his third birdie of the day at the 16th.
Joining Ventura and Hovland in the top 10 was junior Zach Bauchou, who carded an opening 70 to stand in a tie for ninth place.
Freshman Matthew Wolff carded a 75 to finish the day tied for 43rd place, while junior Hayden Wood’s 77 tied him for 63rd place.
The Cowboys will get their final round underway tomorrow at 9:20 (PST) and will be grouped with Pepperdine and Oregon. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
