Library hosts classes for using live online job and tutoring platforms

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / March 15, 2023) – In the fall of 2022, the Stillwater Public Library launched Brainfuse’s JobNow, HelpNow and VetNow – versatile online services that provide library patrons with free, live assistance for job searching, homework help and navigating resources for veterans. Librarians are hosting two classes this spring to help community members learn how to utilize these services. The first class covers JobNow on Thursday, March 23, and the second focuses on HelpNow, on Thursday, April 6. Both classes take place from 6-7 p.m.

JobNow is designed to support every step of the job search process and features live online coaches who assist in resume and cover letter preparation and help patrons prepare for job interviews. The platform also provides access to resume templates, carefully-selected job resources and an adult learning center that provides foundational, career-enhancing skills to job seekers.

VetNow works very similarly to JobNow with some additional features geared toward veterans. The JobNow class will cover some of these features in the class on March 23.

Brenna Gilchrist, adult services librarian, wishes that more people knew about these excellent resources.

“We help a lot of people at the library who are applying for jobs,” Gilchrist said. “It can be daunting to create a resume and interview for jobs, especially if you’re out of practice. JobNow can make the process a lot easier.”

Gilchrist also thinks that HelpNow is underutilized as well.

HelpNow provides on demand, anytime, anywhere eLearning for all ages and levels. It provides differentiated learning solutions for users of diverse needs and background, and gives learners access to live tutors. Students can get help with homework problems, take practice quizzes, submit papers to the writing lab to get feedback and collaborate and learn in a variety of different ways.

“I wish I would have had access to something like this when I was still in school,” Gilchrist said. “If your parents aren’t available to help, or don’t know the subject, or if you’re just really nervous about a writing assignment, this is an easy way to get feedback. And it’s free.”

HelpNow provides tutoring assistance for kindergarten through college, and even has an adult online learning center with access to High School Equivalency prep, US Citizenship test prep and other resources.

The library has laptops available for participants to use at the classes, or attendees are welcome to bring their own. Registration is required at library.stillwater.org/register.php.

Brainfuse is one of the nation’s leading online tutoring providers, serving a diversified client base of libraries, school districts and colleges/universities for over 18 years. Brainfuse is available to all library patrons any computer with internet connection. A library card is not required, but creating an account allows users to save their resources. To access Brainfuse JobNow, HelpNow or VetNow, visit the library’s database webpage at library.stillwater.org/databases.php.
