Future Big 12 Opponents Revealed for Oklahoma State Football
STILLWATER – The opponents are in place with the dates still to be determined for Oklahoma State’s future football schedules with today’s announcement of the Big 12 Conference scheduling matrix for the 2024 through 2027 seasons.
Next season, the Cowboys’ nine conference games will include five road trips and four home games. Three of OSU’s league opponents will be against Big 12 newcomers from the Pacific-12 Conference.
One feature of the matrix is that during the four-year period, all teams will play each other home-and-home at least once over three seasons.
The Cowboys open 2024 with a pair of non-conference home games against South Dakota State on Aug. 31 and Arkansas on Sept. 7. The Jackrabbits of SDSU are the reigning Football Championship Series (FCS) national champions.
The Razorbacks visit Stillwater for the first time since 1978 in the renewal of a non-conference series that dates back to 1912 and was played annually from 1960 through 1980. Arkansas is the first Southeastern Conference team to visit Stillwater since the No. 13 Cowboys upset No. 9 Georgia in 2009.
The non-conference schedule wraps up Sept. 14 when the Cowboys visit Tulsa for the first time since 2019. The Cowboys have won nine straight in the series. Tulsa and Arkansas are OSU’s most often played non-conference opponents.
In Big 12 play, Oklahoma State travels to BYU, Colorado, Baylor, TCU and Kansas State. The Cowboys will host Arizona State, Utah, Texas Tech and West Virginia.
The Cowboys visit BYU for the first time ever. Oklahoma State is 2-0 against the Cougars with both meetings coming in bowl games. The schools play their first regular-season game this season in the finale on Nov. 25 in Stillwater.
Former Big 12 and Big Eight foes OSU and Colorado renew their rivalry next year in Boulder. The Cowboys have won the last three meetings between the two schools, including a 38-8 win in the 2016 Valero Alamo Bowl. The last regular season meeting between the two took place in 2009 in Stillwater. OSU’s last visit to CU was in 2008.
After a one-year hiatus, Baylor and TCU return to the OSU schedule in 2024. Oklahoma State has won its last three regular-season games against the Bears, including two straight in Waco. The Cowboys hold a slim 17-14-2 series lead against the Horned Frogs.
The other two Big 12 road games on the slate for 2024 include visits to Kansas State and West Virginia. The Cowboys have won five straight in Morgantown, including a 48-34 victory on Oct. 21. The Cowboys are 4-1 in their last five meetings with the Wildcats.
The home schedule includes a visit from Utah, the two-time defending Pac-12 champion. The Cowboys and Utes have played just once in a meeting won by the Oklahoma A&M Aggies in 1946.
Arizona State and OSU meet for the third straight year, the first time as conference members. OSU leads the series, 3-2, including a victory earlier this season in Tempe and a win last year in Stillwater.
The Cowboys will also host Texas Tech in 2024. The Cowboys and Red Raiders had played every season since the launch of the Big 12 Conference in 1996 but are not meeting this year.
The Big 12 Conference will announce dates for the 2024 schedule when they are finalized.
