STILLWATER, Okla. ---- Oklahoma State women’s golf is set to close out the fall portion of its schedule Sunday with the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas. The 54-hole tournament will feature 15 teams at the par-72, 6,163-yard course.
The Cowgirls will return to San Marcos looking to repeat their success from last season’s rendition of the event when they captured the tournament title in record-breaking fashion.
For the weekend, Oklahoma State shot 39-under, not only shattering both the course and tournament records, but also breaking the program record for lowest total versus par.
In its most recent competition, OSU landed in ninth at the Illini Women’s Invitational, its first finish outside the top-3 of a regular season since October of 2020.
The playing field in San Marcos includes Colorado, Houston, Missouri, Ohio State, SMU, TCU, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, UNLV, and UTSA, as well as in-state rival Oklahoma, who the Cowgirls have defeated in each of their first three tournaments of the year.
In all, Oklahoma State has compiled an 8-1-0 record against the field it will be competing against this weekend.
The reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, enters this weekend coming off of a career performance at the Illini Women’s Invitational. There, she fired a 204, her lowest 54-hole score as a Cowgirl, en route to a third-place finish. Hinson-Tolchard’s 65 in the second round of the tournament was also a career-best, and the lowest round by a Cowgirl this season.
With the performance, she locked down the ninth top-10 finish in her time as a Cowgirl and her second of the season.
Han-Hsuan Yu joins the Cowgirl lineup after starting in all three of the team’s tournaments thus far. Yu is third on the team with a stroke average of 71.56, and is in search of her sixth top-10 finish in her last 11 tournaments played.
Rina Tatematsu will make her fourth start of the season this weekend after shooting a solid 3-under 213 at the Illini Women’s Invitational.
Clemence Martin returns to the Cowgirl lineup for the first time since her season debut at the Schooner Fall Classic, where she put together a blistering tied for third outing, the highest finish of her career.
In Norman, Martin fired three consecutive rounds in the 60’s before winding up with career-low 202, which is also the best 54-hole score by a Cowgirl this season.
Thitaporn Saithip will look to continue her fantastic start to her freshman year this weekend. The newcomer owns a 71.89 stroke average thus far, fourth best on the team, and posted an impressive 10th-place finish in her collegiate debut at the Carmel Cup.
The tournament is scheduled to tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT on each day. The field will play 36 holes on Sunday, followed by the final 18 on Monday morning.
The Jim West Challenge will be available for streaming on ESPN+, with the broadcast beginning at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday and 9 a.m. CT on Monday.
